NEW PICKUP CAJONS
The new Pickup Cajons (Woodcraft, Snarecraft, Jam) give players a warm tonal quality, a focused sound and a wide dynamic range. In addition, this means that there are different sizes for different uses and ages: The Woodcraft Cajon with custom micro-coiled cajon strings is more of a flamenco cajon, the Snarecraft Cajon with two internal snare sets is especially perfect for Rock & Pop music and the Jam Cajon is a great choice for beginners and on the road jams.
When extra amplification is needed, dial-up your cajon volume and sound with the MEINL Pickup Cajons. Available from the Snarecraft and Woodcraft Professional lines, these cajons are equipped with three Piezo pickups, two for snare sounds and the other for bass sounds. Each cajon comes with a volume and tone knob so you can find your perfect mix. A quarter inch cable port allows you to send your signal through any amp or PA system.
The Cajon, which is the Spanish word for box, has been part of Afro-Peruvian music since the 19th Century. The instrument originated in colonial Peru, when the slaves whose African drums had been forbidden by their masters, used wooden boxes intended to hold fruits or overturned drawers to play their rhythms on.
The Cajon’s later development can be clearly traced back to one man, the Flamenco guitar player Paco de Lucia, who took the Cajon to Spain. Its short staccato sounds makes it perfect for Flamenco music, because it naturally relates to the footwork and hand-claps (“palmas”) used in Flamenco.
The Soleá Line Cajon features two groupings of four pre-tuned metal micro-coiled Cajon strings that span across the inside of the playing surface. These strings are hand-wound in the style of master Cajon builder, José “Pepote” Hernández Diaz. Rounded corners and thumb notches on the top of the front plate and resonating body optimize playing comfort and sound. The 9-Ply, 12mm thick Baltic Birch resonating body develops the sound into a full, punchy tone that projects with clarity and warmth. When amplification is needed, inside the Cajon is a Piezo pickup with tone and volume control on the outside. A quarter-inch cable port allows you to send your signal through any amp or PA system.
